A tall, gaunt carpenter with a curly red head, one of the two workmen building the estate's bathing-hut who spend the story wrestling a burbot out from under a willow snag; his deep, hoarse bass voice and dry, unhurried manner play against the hunchbacked Lyubim's shrill impatience.
