Aleksei Suvorin's wife, mistress of the Petersburg "New Times" household where Chekhov stayed in March 1888; she arranges his rooms and, at dinner, breaks into the men's conversation in a comic bass voice or a dog-bark impression. Distinct from (an unrelated relative of Suvorin's mentioned in a different 1887 letter) and from (the Suvorins' daughter, also present in this household).
