Nikolai Gogol's comedy "Marriage" (Женитьба, 1842), about a hesitant bureaucrat's comic courtship; Chekhov reports seeing a performance of it and praises it highly, noting the acts run absurdly long but that this is scarcely felt given the play's merits.
